Hard to Swallow

Head empty of thought

muscles no longer taut

with eyes that stare past a face

A life in regression

the battle with depression

is fought with a tiny pill

It slows our thoughts and calms our nerves

by taking away our will

Hard to cope, we give up hope

and stop the questioning why

The world feels safer under our duvet

so off we go to lie

The darkness is our favourite time

When all the world is still

And we sit without thought or energy

and swallow the bitter pill
