National Limerick Day

Today is “National limerick Day” In honour of English artist and writer, Edward Lear’s birthday

I’ve had fun with rude limericks in my earlier  school years, as I’m sure we all have?

but below is the comparatively tame version  of

“The Man From Nantucket”

that appeared in Princeton University’s, Tiger Magazine,

(Incidentally the first version ever recorded in print).

“There once was a man from Nantucket

who kept all his cash in a bucket

but his daughter, named Nan

ran of with a man,

and as for the bucket? Nantucket”

I wish you all a very Happy Limerick day

  1. The saucer I saw in the skies
    Was certainly quite a surprise.
    But my nightmare began
    When a little green man
Said “Greetings!” and opened his flies.

I'd love to hear from you.
